Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems
04/16/2026
Due to low disinfectant levels in our distribution system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Port O’Connor Improvement District public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Oscar Pena at 361-935-8522.
The chlorinator booster pump at the water plant is currently not working properly. We are in the process of evaluating the malfunction to correct the problem. We will notify the public as soon as the boil water notice is lifted.

Water system update
Dear Customers,
When you’re at the end of the road the best laid plans always seem to be a wish, not a reality.
The majority of the cleaning on the new RO System has taken place. However, the amount of cleaning needed to complete the raw water storage tank took considerably longer than the contractor anticipated. The contractor had to schedule additional days to finish but also had other jobs scheduled that they had to complete and then returned to our job. Additionally, a chemical required to clean the tank properly has been delayed in Ohio.
Our plan is to button up the system, sanitize it and bring it back on-line mid-week next week. This will allow for the water we produce to be the excellent quality that the RO system is made for in time for the Crawfish Festival the weekend of April 25th.
Once the chemical arrives and the Crawfish Festival is over, we will again take the system off-line to complete the cleaning. The good news is, I am assured this will only be a 3-4 day process. We will again be on well water for those days but after that, the new RO System will be fully online.
Once the system is fully functioning and any final programing issue are worked out, we will host an open house for those that would like to see what the last 8 year have produced. I think everyone will be proud of what we have planned for and accomplished. Especially in these times of drought and the increased concern for water independence.
We really appreciate your patience and understanding. As always if you have questions feel free to contact myself, the district or any board member for the most precise and correct information.
